This 211 acre pond
is over 90 feet deep in several places and is about one and one
half miles long. The shore line is moderately built out but fortunately
not very densely. Long Pond is mesotrophic (it contains moderate
quantities of nutrients and is moderately productive for aquatic
animal and plant life).
The state boat ramp makes it one of the
more heavily used ponds in Plymouth. Fishing is good. Sailboat
races take place every summer weekend.
Unfortunately there is significant
degradation from stormwater runoff shunted to the pond from the
relatively dense 200 house Plymouth Estates residential development
to the north. |
